It Takes So Much Courage to be Vulnerable

It takes so much courage to be vulnerable, especially if you’re like me and grew up in a culture that taught me that being hard was being strong.
We can choose to believe that somehow we’re immune to difficult feelings – that we’re somehow better than – safer than – different than, but this is just a strategy to self-protect and arm ourselves with judgment and self-righteousness.

Every day I’m learning how to lean into both the beauty and agony of our shared humanity, being willing to see those things in me that I see in others and that we all struggle with from time to time. Choosing courage does not mean that we’re unafraid or flawless, it means that we are brave enough to love and be open despite the fear and uncertainty.

Courage is standing up and saying ‘I’m overwhelmed’, ‘I don’t know what I’m doing’, ‘I’ve made a terrible mistake’ or (especially in yoga world) ‘you know, I’m really pissed off and angry with you right now’

courage to be vunerable

When was the last time you put your hand up and said ‘I am messed up right now?’ It takes courage to be real and to let people see your messy-self, but you know I really like people who are messy like me and doing their best to keep it real! Join me class this week as we build the strength to live with our hearts wide open. Love Deborah x
